REELIN’ IN THE YEARS PRODUCTIONS CONTRIBUTES 34 MUSIC CLIPS TO NEW U2 “WINDOW IN THE SKIES” MUSIC VIDEO

SAN DIEGO- Reelin’ In The Years® Productions, the world’s largest archive of music footage, is thrilled to announce its significant contributions to U2’s new “Window In The Skies” music video. This groundbreaking video, which is already causing a stir in music circles and on the Internet, utilizes over 120 rapid-fire clips of vintage musical greats edited in near-perfect sync with the track. The song is U2’s latest single, produced by Rick Rubin and recorded at Abbey Road Studios specifically for their new greatest hits CD, 18 Singles.

Not only is Reelin’ In The Years® Productions the largest single contributor to the video with 34 clips, they were honored to act as consultants during the production process and helped select key replacement shots during the final editing rounds. In early November, Boston-based production company Modernista!, producers of the video,  contacted David Peck, president of Reelin’ In The Years Productions, to tap his skills as one of the world’s foremost authorities on music footage to help in the initial research phase. From there the company’s involvement stepped up increasingly—from sending over 24 hours of screener material to identifying and contacting various rights-holders—right up until the deadline in mid-December.

Among the artists culled from Reelin’-produced DVDs are Louis Armstrong from Jazz Icons: Louis Armstrong- Live in ’59, as well as key clips from Smokey Robinson & The Miracles: Definitive Performances 1963-1987, Marvin Gaye: The Real Thing- In Performance 1964-1981, The Temptations: Get Ready- Definitive Performances 1965-1972 and Muddy Waters- Classic Concerts. Many more video images, including Black Sabbath, The Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash, The Pretenders, The Clash, Beastie Boys, Beck, Nirvana, Billie Holliday, Elton John, Frank Zappa, Iggy Pop and The Police, came from the vast, virtually untapped Reelin’ In The Years library, which encompasses over 10,000 hours of music footage from the past 50 years, from over 30 television stations around the globe, from the U.S. and Europe to Australia and Japan. In addition to being GRAMMY-nominated producers of classic performance DVDs, Reelin’ In The Years Productions has licensed video clips to numerous projects from big budget Hollywood movies (Vanilla Sky) and award-winning documentaries (Ken Burns’ Jazz, Martin Scorsese Presents The Blues) to retrospective boxed sets, both CD (Talking Heads, Pretenders, Byrds) as well as DVD (Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Police, Elvis Costello).
